Play more games

“I think it’s wrong that only one company makes the game Monopoly.” – Steven Wright

I love games.

Board games, video games, apps, drinking games, ping pong, pool, darts……the list goes on and on.

One of the goals that I have set for myself in the coming year is to play more games.  Games are a great way to pass the time with friends, as it gives everyone something to focus on, which helps keep the conversation flowing.

It’s funny what you can learn about one another when playing a game.  My wife has a younger cousin that was always quiet when we met for holidays.  One time I finally was able to convince them that we should break out the board game, and holy cow did her personality come alive! She was hilarious, and had a terrific sense of humor!  She’s now one of my favorite relatives to spend time with because she’s always up for a fun time, and I now have a much better understanding of her true personality, all thanks to a simple game that we played together!

I’m naturally a shy person, and I have a narrow list of interests that do not easily translate with many of my peer’s.  Lots of my friends know a lot about sports, the local bar scene, or whats happening in the news.

I always do my best to keep up with the conversation, but steering them to talk about things that interest me (frugality, raising kids, investing), can be a bit of a challenge.

But, if you throw a game in front of us that we both like to play, it is no challenge at all to find great topics of conversation.

Here are a list of games that I LOVE to play, and I know you would too if you gave them a chance.

Or, if you are feeling REALLY hardcore, you could organize a “Minute to Win it” game.

I do this with my extended family at thanksgiving, and we pick 5 or 6 events and do timed 1 minute one on one challenges.  Lets just say that since we started doing this, Thanksgiving has never been the same.  It’s SO much fun.

What’s your favorite game to play that’s not on my list?
